Sophie Warren

Congratulations to McAuley senior, Sophie Warren, who was recently elected Governor of Dirigo Girls State, an organization run by the American Legion for young women interested in government, politics and public service.

Each June, for one week, girls gather at Husson College in Bangor and form what resembles a state government and legislature.  Historically, the program has attracted 200 to 300 girls from all 16 counties in Maine. Girls run for “representative” positions from their “towns” and serve in the Dirigo House and Senate. Girls also campaign for the state-government type positions of Governor, President of the Senate and Speaker of the House.

Warren, who was elected Governor on June 21, will get the chance to travel to Washington D.C. for a week in July, along with one other Dirigo delegate, to a nationwide program also run by the American Legion, called Girls Nation.

Kudos to you, Sophie!  The McAuley community is proud of this well-deserved accomplishment!
