Congratulations to four McAuley sophomores, and their teacher, JB Kavaliauskas, for their participation – and impressive recognition – in the “From the Bow Seat” writing and art contest, an interdisciplinary contest that highlighted ocean awareness, creativity and advocacy.

Emma Spies received honorable mention accolades for her artistic interpretation of the crisis and prevalence of plastic pollution.

Samantha Witkowski, Alexis Bolduc-Greene and Julia Bailinson also received honorable mention accolades for their projects on ocean advocacy.

Ms. Kavaliauskas received a teacher recognition award for her “daily inspiration and guidance” surrounding ocean awareness.  She was cited as an “exceptional teacher” who “inspires incredible work from her students.”

Over 375 art, advocacy and essay entries were submitted by students in 28 states and nine countries.  Kudos, once again, to our McAuley girls (and to Ms. Kavaliauskas) on their amazing accomplishments!
